the weight of transparency (2017)

My approach to this piece involves a process of navigating towards transparency.

I am speaking of transparency in the musical discourse through the use of repetition and limited musical materials. This piece inhabits a barren landscape delineated by broad strokes of perceptual processes, transparent in their linearity and directionality.

These processes represent objects of transparency possessing weight — weight as something deserving of attention through the timely and consequential occupation of listening space.

Alternatively, transparency may be witnessed in the treatment of time, as something that can be waited upon, where the difference of a second begins to impart the most dramatic and weighted shift in perception.
